Prescribing Addictive Medications
Addictive medicines or drugs of dependence can be dangerous and are only prescribed after careful consultation with you ensuring you understand all the risks and benefits. After consultation, if the decision is made to prescribe any of these addictive drugs, you may be asked to give your consent and understanding in writing.
Your health and safety is of the utmost importance to our doctors, so you may be required to sign an agreement with us that outlines the goals, expectations and responsibilities of taking your medication.
Taking a drug of dependence is a serious matter and the agreement may outline
- Your responsibilities as a patient
- Any prescription issues that could be expected
- How your care will be monitored by us
- Standards of behaviour while taking this medication
- Advice on taking your medication
- Expectations of our clinic for your on-going care
Drugs of addiction or dependence include (but are not limited to) opiates and benzodiazapines. These drugs will not be prescribed under any circumstances at your first consultation and repeat scripts will only be issued after face-to-face appointments.
King Street Medical Clinic has a zero tolerance policy of any violence or aggression towards our staff.
